Orange Ilustrated

So I sat down tonight to relax and get caught up with some of the magazines that have accumulated over last couple of weeks. Opened the NFL Draft Issue of Sports Illlustrated and in only the first few pages there were three separate items that involved a reference to Syracuse University. I thought I would share them:

1)GO FIGURE Section: 59 - Age of Florida brick mason Charles Chulada - who played guard at Syracuse University from 1969-73 - when he tried out for a CFL team last week. Wow - Charlie, are you getting our newsletter? We need to meet you!

2) FACES IN THE CROWD section: John Galloway - A senior goalkeeper at Syracuse University, made 16 saves ub a 13-11 defeat of Duke to set the Division 1 record for career wins (52) by a goalie. A 2010 All-America, he is the only starting goalie in NCAA history to win national titles as a freshman and sophomore. Wow - John, please make sure to call us when you come down for lacrosse camps or to visit Casey or Steve!

3)JUST MY TYPE by Dan Patrick. In his weekly column Patrick interviews Bob Costas, hall of fame broadcaster who shares his opinion on voting steroid enhanced baseball players into the Hall of Fame...Spoiler Alert....Barry Bonds - Yes

So on three consecutive pages the University is well represented.

Just wanted to share some great pictures at Singer Island the morning of 3/19 at our NOD Beach Clean-Up. On the link below, scroll down to the Riviera Beach Clean Up.

http://www.surfriderpbc.org/beachcleanup.html

For those of you who would like a T-Shirt, we are selling off the remaining few at $5.00 each, first come first served, go to Logo Gear on the web site and there are instructions for contacting Sherryl. There will also be a few available at the 4/6 networking meeting at Gatsby's in Davie. Details also on the web site.

The University is incredibly supportive of NOD efforts made by the alumni clubs, so if you think you have an interest in taking leadership of the 2012 event, now is the time to step up and let Eric or Ryan know...

Best Regards, Go Orange!

National Orange Day At Singer Island

What a great day on the beach at Singer Island, just could not have asked for nicer weather for this event. The parade of thank you acknowledgements starts with Mickey, Todd and Tom of the Palm Beach Chapter of Surfriders. Thank you for your hospitality and for making sure our our members had a great time while serving a great cause. Thank you for taking the extra time post event to share with us the serious situation confronting our beaches. Thank you to our alumni support team at SU, for promoting the event and for sending us T-Shirts and Hats to raffle off...Thank you to to Kerry, our incredible communications director, for everything she does to promote all of the club activities and for her extra support on this NOD event. Thank you to Ryan Schultz for promoting the event to our networking group and for making the long trip up to Singer Island despite other family obligations that very same day. Thank you Tony Lourido for coordinating the brunch at Longboats, great time, great weather, great food. Thank you to all of our sponsors and to Sherryl for creating an incredible T-Shirt on short notice. Total contributions easily covered the cost of the shirts with enough left over for a very generous gift to the Surfrider Beach Clean Up Efforts...Thank you to everyone who attended and hopefully you had a good time and felt good about doing something worthwhile even though it meant getting up early and making a long drive...That is the spirit of NOD.

For anyone who wanted to make it but couldn't...you can at least feel a part of the event by purchasing an official NOD Singer Island T-Shirt. The SU School logo is on the front and our club logo is on the back with a list of all of the sponsors. We will post a picture of the shirt on the web site and if interested, they will be available for you to pick up at Embroidery Works in Boca Raton at $5.00 each. I will bring some to future game watching events and to networking events as well.

This is the third consecutive NOD event that I have had the honor to organize and I'm proud that our club has been recognized by the University for its NOD accomplishments. I'm sure many of you saw the national email communication which profiled our clubs NOD Activity. The tradition has been started and now it is time for some of our younger alumni club members to take on leadership roles including the Chair of the Community Service Committee which includes selecting and organizing the NOD Event. This was my last event as your NOD chairman, but hopefully not my last as an attendee. The club is looking for new leaders with energy and conviction to community service through the outreach of our alma mater...Call Eric or Ryan and let them know you want to step up...

National Orange Day

National Orange Day is a wonderful tradition that brings the SU community and alumni clubs across the nation together to celebrate the history of SU, and to engage in projects that support our respective local communities. This year, the SUACSF is organizing a "beach clean-up" on Singer Island. The event will be held at Ocean Reef Park, 3860 North Ocean Drive, Riviera Beach, FL (Singer Island). Event details will also be posted on our Web Site www.southfloridasyracuse.com and on our Facebook Page http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=118345588237036#!/event.php?eid=118345588237036#!/event.php?eid=177194832317129 , and is also available on this link: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=118345588237036

We are meeting at the beach at 9:00am on Saturday, March 19th and will be on the beach for about 90 minutes. Please dress accordingly and bring plenty of sun protection. Teams of 4 members will work together to collect debris from the beach. There is a team entry fee of $20 which will be used to offset costs of the event and as a contribution to beach cleanup efforts and Syracuse University Scholarship Fund. Additionally, we are accepting sponsorships for the event, with the sponsors name to be published in the event PR material and on back of the event T-Shirt. Sponsorships are also $20. Community service credit will be awarded to all students that wish to have the credit, bring your forms so they can be endorsed properly at the registration desk that will be set up at the event. Each participant should bring a pair of latex gloves with them as they will not be provided. Garbage bags however will be provided and available to all participants. There are showers and changing rooms, so for those of you planning on staying after the cleanup to enjoy lunch with the SU group, please feel free to bring a change of clothes.

After the beach cleanup we will have a post event lunch at Johnny Longboats(http://www.johnnylongboats.com/Restaurant_West_Palm_Beach.php) to relax and share stories and hand out awards for best cleanup teams and have some Syracuse Trivia contests for prizes.

Please contact Dean Morrison at deanleaseman@yahoo.com or by cell at 954-224-3390 for more information about Team Registrations and Sponsorship Opportunities
